Dat 26

Job 1:1-3:26; Matthew 18:10-35; Psalm 16:1-11
Today we arrive at Job, one of the books that I have been dreading blogging about because it is just so full of suffering. Andy gives a good video intro to the book which is worth checking out.
Some of the stuff that we have been looking at in church yesterday and today actually sheds a lot of light on what is happening here, going forward into the book of Habakkuk (3:17-19) where we are told that no matter what is going on, “yet I will rejoice”. And Job does just that, no matter what the world or the devil will throw at him, still he will not deny God.

In this mornings sermon Richard explored this song
Of all the versions of this song, I chose this one because of the opening sequence. However turbulent life is, God is there. There were some pretty hefty waves coming though in this clip, but the one thing that stayed the same was that rock in the middle. “The Lord is my rock” (Psalm 18:2). And because God stays firm, we need to stay firm to him.
There is one other important thing that we need to learn from this passage. If we take it in isolation from the rest of the book for a minute, the first thing that Job’s friends did was to come to him because they heard of his problems and they wept with them. Do you have any friends that really need you to do that at the moment. People close to you who are really going through a rough time and need you to go to them rather than ignore the problem.
