Day 83

Numbers 16:36-18:32, Luke 5:17-32, Psalm 37:10-20

The more I read of Numbers at the moment, the more I am getting frustrated with the people of Israel, they just don't give up with the grumbling. I am starting to get a bit annoyed with them, let alone how God must have felt. Take a look though at the role that Moses and Aaron take, the number of times that they have stood up for the people.

I don't know whether that makes it worse for me, if it hadn't been for Moses and Aaron, the people would have been dead a long time ago. They would have been dead numerous times!!! But faithfully Moses and Aaron get in the way and quite literally save the Israelites hides. Just after the last of these happenings, God says that he wants to settle this once and for all. Using the old "budding staff" trick, he tries to tell the people that Aaron is his chosen priest, chosen as one of the leaders. Right, that should settle it, that should shut them up. But then the people don't listen to God, he says that he will not wipe them out and they go off on one saying "surely we will die". Listen people!!!!!!!!

Moses and Aaron have really inspired me as intercessors. We spoke yesterday about how we live in a time when people are ignoring God and not that different to what the Israelites were doing. So what is our role, to be intercessors, to get there in the middle. The best thing that we can do in any situation is pray. We said about Jesus going away to pray and we need to do the same, whatever the situation. In the Gospel, if it hadn't been for the paralytics friends he would have been stuffed. Ok, they weren't praying, but they got the friend to Jesus in order for things to happen. We can stand in that gap as well, bringing friends to Jesus whether literally or in prayer.

So other than the Israelites going off on one, we see the power of intercession (quite literally to go between or come between God and people). What situation or person do you feel you need to intercede for. Go on, get in the middle, give it to God in prayer.
