Day 90

Numbers 29:12-31:24, Luke 8:19-39, Psalm 39:1-13

There is a hint that this is to be Moses last act before he is gathered up to his people, the vengeance over the Midianites, although in fact we will see him into Deuteronomy. It is a bit of a cliff hanger though, especially if your name is Moses. If this is to be your last act you may be forgiven delaying it, but Moses, ever faithful to the Lord, gets on with the task at hand.

Unlike a group of disciples, who go out on a boat trip and get a bit scared, even though they have the son of God in the boat with them. But who can blame them if we are being honest? Even though I know that Jesus is the Son of God I am still amazed every time I read this passage. The idea of Jesus commanding all the forces of nature is something that I would have loved to have seen. To say to the waves "Calm down" and to the wind "Shut up" defies the human logic of our understanding of weather. But then God has defied human logic since before time began!

What we see in the final part of the Gospel reading is one of the first evangelists. Jesus has changed this blokes life, he is unrecognisable and Jesus tells him to go and tell his friends and family. Spread the word of God. Even if we are in the toughest storm at the moment, or we feel as though a hundred and one things are weighing down on our lives, we believe in the God who can still the storm and the God who can rid us of any demon we feel is getting in the way. The question is, who are we going to tell about this wonderful God? the death of Christ has changed our lives just like Legion, let us join with the ranks of evangelists throughout the ages and spread the word of God.
