Day 119

Joshua 15:1-16:10, John 1:1-28, Psalm 53:1-6

Not the most riveting of content in Joshua today, in fact far from it. Contrasted however by one of the most wonderful and most well known passages as we start John's Gospel.

Imagine though that you live in one of these towns today, lets say Eshtaol (ch15 v33), just outside Jerusalem.

To know that your history is so closely tied up with God and his plans. Imagine that Penrith, Sheffield or Manchester were named. Places that we are tied up with, we would feel a real affinity with the deepest part of God's walk with his people.

Even though we don't live in Israel, in any of the places named today, we are just as deeply tied up as they are. We have already discovered that Jesus came to end the distinction between Jew and Gentile. In John we are told that the Word was there right from the very beginning. It doesn't matter about the history of Eshtaol or Libnah and their history in Joshua's time, our history lies in Christ at the very start of creation.

From the very start of creation the word became flesh, bringing God to us, bringing the glory of God with grace and truth. Now our home towns may tug the heart strings just a little, but the promise of God, word made flesh, enflames our hearts beyond all compare.
