Day 120

Joshua 17:1-18:28, John 1:29-51, Proverbs 10:31-11:8

Leading people to Christ is an interesting business. In the commercial world, word of mouth is a valuable commodity. If people are happy with the product they tell other people, and the chain begins. With the likes of YouTube etc, that word of mouth can spread even faster.

Look at how these disciples came to Jesus. John told some of his disciples, one of whom was named Andrew. Andrew had his own experience and he told his brother, and that was Simon Peter. We know where Simon goes in the story, all from a friend, telling a friend, who goes on to tell many others.

The next story of the disciples speaks of the power of Jesus own words. Two words to Philip, “Follow me”, bear results and a short conversation with Nathanael convinces him that this is the man who can and will change the world. Many have come claiming to be the Messiah but only one carries the power and majesty that proves he is the Messiah.

We still see examples today of how such word of mouth can change lives, how speaking of the change that has happened within our own lives can convince others of the love of Christ at work in the world. Proverbs tells us that “the mouth of the righteous brings forth wisdom” and  that “the integrity of the upright guides them”, The words of our mouth and living out our integrity are the best from of product placement and advertising that we can offer for the Gospel.

If John told one person, who told another, who told the world. Just imagine what could happen if you told one person tomorrow.
