Day 180

1 Kings 22:1-53, Acts 19:14-41, Proverbs 15:31-16:7

God does a lot of his work behind the scenes, work that we will not see until it comes to fruition and a lot of work that we will never see. We have just had the Oscars, with all the pomp and ceremony that is involved. For that to happen a lot of work takes place preparing the venues, building the massive statues and rolling out the red carpet, all of this before the first TV camera starts to role. Similarly, from the start of creation to this very day, God has been working behind the scenes to put on the show that we call life.

I was sent down this train of thought from the interactions with Ahab in the readings today. We often hear the phrase "Why does God let that happen?" or "Why doesn't God do something?" perhaps even in relation to events that are going on at the moment. But we don't know what God is doing, for we can be sure he won't be sat idle. The vast majority of the nations of Judah and Israel will not have been aware of the prophecy that was spoken against Ahab, they won't be aware of everything God did to fulfil his promise and to deal with a king that had gone completely off the rails and was not doing "what was right in the eyes of the Lord". All of this unseen and yet ensuring that Ahab did not get away with murder. Whatever the situation to day, God will be at work in one way or another.

Similarly in Acts it is all looking a little bit hairy, like the whole crowd was about to lynch the Christians, and then God quietly spoke up through the official and the crowd was dispelled, the riot was calmed. The Lord works in mysterious ways, ways that we will never know and never be able to fathom. Sometimes  we just have to trust that God is at work.
