Day 192

2 Kings 21:1-22:20, Acts 28:17-31, Proverbs 16:28-17:4

“Josiah was 8 years old when he became king … he did what was right in the eyes of the Lord”. There have been many people come to the thrown at a young age but this one did what was right in the eyes of the Lord. Impressive for such an early age!

Hold on one minute though. When you are an eight year old king you rely on your advisors a lot! If anything, he will have learnt from his dad things that were not good and yet something within him, and all the people around him, changed that. We have said that OT kings are very powerful people, if an eight year old had said “Kill the prophets” it would still have happened, an eight year old still holds that power. And yet people would have also tried to counsel him, talk to him, encourage him in right ways, and for Josiah these were godly people. The lesson for us is that we can make a difference. When we live the Gospel, when we speak the Gospel, we can change lives, we can change the minds of Kings. Who knows what might happen today by you simply living out the Gospel truth of Christ Jesus.

It was by chance that I flipped to tomorrow and saw that this is the end of Acts, Romans starts tomorrow. As “non-Jews” we can perhaps take comfort from the fact that Paul’s last words in the book of Acts was that the Gospel would be taken to the Gentiles and “they will listen!” As Gentiles that is pretty good news. Then the last we hear from Luke is that Paul “proclaimed the kingdom of God and taught about the Lord Jesus Christ—with all boldness and without hindrance!” This man will seemingly not be stopped. What an example to us in our journey through the Gospel.

Like Paul we too can proclaim the Kingdom of God and speak about Christ, and in doing so, we can be sure that it might just change lives, it might just change the lives of a King. What are you going to do and say today that might make a difference.
