Day 197

Amos 3:1-4:13, Romans 3:9-31, Psalm 85:8-13

I’m a sinner! A bold statement but a true one. We all are!

I was recently talking to someone about a sermon by Peter Rollins where he talked about denying the resurrection and how, every time we do something which is against the teaching of Christ, we deny the resurrection. In this statement he is touching on the fact that there are times when we all fail to fully follow the teaching of Christ. It’s a fact.

As he writes to the Romans, Paul is using an Old Testament passage that sums up the very same issue – “there is no-one righteous, not even one”. He goes on to cover the fact that no-one can be righteous under the law, they just can’t manage to keep the letter of the law all the time. He goes on to talk about the importance of faith, that it is not by law that we are saved but by faith.

There are some people that think this is an excuse that we don’t need to keep the law because we have faith, because of the faith part we will be ok. Paul doesn’t agree, he says that because of our faith we actually uphold the law. Because we love Christ, because we want to be more like him, because we have faith that he is our saviour, because of all of this we keep his commandments. Not out of obligation but out of love and faith.

How do you mark the fact that you have faith in the one true God, in the Lord Jesus Christ?
