Day 198

Amos 5:1-27, Romans 4:1-15, Psalm 86:1-10

Whatever it is that we are going through, we can be assured that we are not the first to go through it. One of the joys of reading all of the Bible is that we will come across people there who have been through the things that we might be suffering with right now. One of the great things about our faith is that in Christ, God came down to earth to go through all the rubbish that we encounter.

As I started reading our passages today I wondered what I might write from the place I am in at the moment. I even thought that I actually had nothing to offer, then I met in Psalms someone who had been to some pretty deep dark places. The wonder of the Bible is that God gives us words that we can take on as our own, so these are my words today:

1 Hear me, LORD, and answer me,
   for I am poor and needy.
2 Guard my life, for I am faithful to you;
   save your servant who trusts in you.
You are my God; 3 have mercy on me, Lord,
   for I call to you all day long.
4 Bring joy to your servant, Lord,
   for I put my trust in you.

5 You, Lord, are forgiving and good,
   abounding in love to all who call to you.
6 Hear my prayer, LORD;
   listen to my cry for mercy.
7 When I am in distress, I call to you,
   because you answer me.

8 Among the gods there is none like you, Lord;
   no deeds can compare with yours.
9 All the nations you have made
   will come and worship before you, Lord;
   they will bring glory to your name.
10 For you are great and do marvellous deeds;
   you alone are God.

  1. i really liked the amos 5 21-24. kinda shows that without justice god isn't interested even with all the sacrifices and songs and i bet there were a lot of them.
    being all grown up these days there are a few things i have noticed in this world and on our very doorsteps is the fact that justice is not "applied" that much and almost everything seems unfair or bias. one thing i believe that is needed to change the world is justice but the justice that jesus talked about seem a bit nutty (yet a great way to show love and evangelise)
    matherw 5 40 And if anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, hand over your coat as well. 41 If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles. 42 Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.
    i feel like a pastor now haha. i believe god has set a mountain for us to climb but with prayer and pettition we can get it to fall in the sea and it would be "easier"
