Day 209

1 Chronicles 4:9-5:26, Romans 11:11-32, Psalm 89:19-29

There is a lot of interest in family trees. Whether it is “Who do you think you are” on BBC or the many different genealogy programmes or websites, people like to know where they come from. The trip through Chronicles may be hard and tedious at times but you can see where they were coming from when they wrote such an epic piece. When God can be found in different places in the family tree, it makes the search even more exciting.

The bad news? Chronicles will take us another month. The good news? It is not all like this.

Moving to Romans, although Paul is not as good as Jesus with parables and word pictures, he has a point with this one. It was a few years ago that I discovered that you could actually graft plants together, putting the branch of one plant on the stem of another. It does actually work.

What Paul is saying though is that it is never too late. The Jews had messed up quite a bit in their relationship with God but things could be repaired. Paul has spent us some time (in Acts and in Romans) telling us that Jesus came to save the Gentiles, in fact Paul majors on the Gentiles despite the fact that he was a Jew. Here though he is pointing out that if the Jews chose to follow Christ then they could be grafted back on to the plant.

Where are you at the moment with God? Just remember it is never too late.
