Day 214
1 Chronicles 12:23-14:17, Romans 15:14-33, Psalm 90:1-10
The other thing today is from the Psalm. I am really enjoying the points in our reading when we encounter some of our worship songs and hymns - like "from everlasting to everlasting". We have already looked at the fact that these were the hymns of the day but what about their everlasting nature. These were written about the relationship of God with the people of Israel, they were quite specific in their wording. And yet God has continued to be the dwelling of his people throughout the ages. In fact, as we have become more and more aware of the world, creation and the universe the words "from before the mountain were born ... you are God" take on such significant meaning.
It is an awesome thought. I've spent a lot of time pondering the vastness of God and the universe but this is different. This is the eternity of God. Beyond all our ideas of time, something that we measure in minute detail, God is bigger than all of it. Scientists tell us when the earth was created and before that we struggle to imagine, well anything really. We might even wonder what the world will be like in the year 2649, but God stretches further than all of it!
That is awesome.
"For I will not venture to speak of anything except what Christ has accomplished through me"There are a lot of people within the church who would benefit from heeding these words. What we should only ever speak of is what comes from Christ. Sometimes we get distracted by so many other things and fail to speak of Christ in all things. There has been a lot recently about living like Christ, this is about speaking of Christ and Christ alone.
