Day 217

1 Chronicles 19:1-22:1, 1 Corinthians 1:18-2:5, Psalm 91:1-8

Reading on in 1 Corinthians brought me on from what we were saying yesterday about our understanding, the infinite nature of God and the vastness of the universe. Paul goes on about the foolishness of the cross and such foolishness bringing low the wise. We seem to get wiser and wiser, we know more and more about the nature of man, the nature of the world and pretty much everything. Despite all of this knowledge people still want to know what life is all about, they still look for something beyond the scientific. The answer to the question that they all ask is the cross of Christ, the thing that gave us life!

And that message is foolish. The God of all things sends his son to die on the cross that we might live? That just seems daft! But then love is daft, just look at some of the things that we humans do for love. Science (ignoring medical science) does not touch the heart though, and that is where the foolishness of the cross comes into its own. It changes hearts and it changes lives.

The other thing to take from Paul is that we are all foolish. There are days when I feel immensely daft and yet God still called me to do His work. The same is true for us all for it is the wisdom of the Spirit that allows us to speak, and then we can speak out for God.

Feeling foolish today? Rejoice in it and ask God what he wants you to do next.
