Day 221
1 Chronicles 28:1-29:30, 1 Corinthians 5:1-13, Psalm 93:1-5
There are times when God has said something to me and I have thought the opposite. If I am a being honest, some of these times I have gone with what I thought was right and not what God was telling me.
It seems as though David didn’t really want to be told either. He wanted to build a temple for the Ark of the Covenant but God said no, it was for Solomon to do. So David drew up the plans, bought the materials, prepared all the materials and told Solomon what to do. He basically did absolutely everything except put the bricks on top of each other!!!
This is a little bit hard on David, God clearly gave him the plans but it does teach us a lesson about discernment, about praying when our own ideas seem to conflict with what God is saying to us. Last time we were reading about David we saw all the godly people that he talked to and consulted and this is yet another tool that is open to us when we are trying to understand what God is saying. We must first listen to God, listen a load more in prayer and then listen to others, because doing the will of God should be our joy.
And then Paul wades in with a lot of sexual immorality. The problem is more that the Corinthians don’t seem to have too many concerns with it, in fact they had a bit of a problem with sex and immorality. Paul is saying that if we don’t acknowledge the problem and deal with it, it grows, a bit like the yeast in the dough. Paul has already warned us about judging, so this is one area where it is important to listen to God.
What is God saying to you at the moment, more importantly what are you thinking (and do the two match)?
