Day 222
2 Chronicles 1:1-17, 1 Corinthians 6:1-20, Psalm 94:1-11
2 Chronicles is going to be in the same vain as 1 Chronicles, affirming and underlining the history books we read earlier. So not a great deal today other than taking us from David through to Solomon and that wonderful request for wisdom.
Paul’s message is quite similar, continuing with the whole sex thing. Frist though he hits out at law suits and not taking each other to court outside the church. There are two important points in this, one is that Christ should be in everything, the only model that is important when judging a dispute between members of the church is a model that is set on Christ, not the judgement of unbelievers.
More importantly though is the fact that if Christ is there in the first place, then the disputes should not get to that level. The teaching that Christ gave centred on love and forgiveness, not disputes and arguments.
This is one of the biggest lessons that the church can learn from Paul. Some of the stuff on immorality helps us with our personal walk with God, but how many churches have been split and torn apart because of disputes about worship, organs, pews and far too much other rubbish. If churches would listen to Paul and be marked by love and forgiveness, then we might do a better job of being the loving community of God that the world so needs.
It also reminds us personally as well. If you disagree with someone in the church, no matter what the subject matter is, then don’t let it get to a full on dispute. Place Christ in the centre, place forgiveness in the centre, and the end result will be united in Christ.
Bring any disagreements before God today.
