Day 243

Micah 1:1-4:13, 2 Corinthians 4:1-18, Psalm 104:31-35

Apparently carrots help you to see in the dark! One thing I do know is that sitting in the dark really does help you to see in the dark. I was recently in Kielder forest which is meant to be the darkest place in the UK, with the least light pollution and the best view of the stars. Imagine that you were left in the middle of Kielder forest on a cloudy night, blindfolded. When you took the blindfold off you would not be able to see a thing. After a while though you eyes would get used to it and you would start to see things. The light is always there, even in the darkness.

Paul is talking about the light, the light of Christ. That light which the darkness can never put out. Light is one of the most powerful things going, it gives us life and it governs our time. Plants follow it across the sky and if it were not for light we would not see the beauty and glory of the Lord. That is the power of light and it shines in the darkness. Christ the light is no different, He gives us life and rules over all things (including the time of the world). People follow Christ and without him we would not see the power and glory of the Lord. No different, but very different.

Imagine again the scene in Kielder forest, where the light eventually allows you to see … branches and grass and trees! Imagine though what the light of Christ allows you to see. Hope in despair, joy in sorrow, victory in defeat, life in death. With this particular light, life takes on a whole new … well … light!!!

Open your eyes to light of Christ today and see what view things take.
