Day 247

Isaiah 5:8-8:10, 2 Corinthians 7:2-16, Psalm 105:23-36

Isaiah’s calling has to be amongst my favourite passages of all time. The wonderful imagery that he offers in his vision gives a picture of God and heaven that rivals some of the stuff that we have read so far. The glory of it, the wonder of it and yet the fact that Isaiah was allowed to glimpse it in his vision. And then the calling. Pure and simple – “who shall we send?” “Send me!” No fuss, no messing!

On a practical note the message of Isaiah is there for all of us. Note how Isaiah doesn’t feel worthy, not just because of the people he lives amongst, but  because he himself had unclean lips. That though is nothing that God can’t deal with, one of the seraphs flew over and it was sorted. There are many things that make us feel unworthy of doing God’s work and yet God can deal with all of it. We have no excuse when he calls.

One thing that we do need to remember is that Isaiah is not prophesying eternal judgement at this stage, he is talking to a nation that has lost its way and will soon be in exile. But then he talks of the Immanuel, the one who was to come to save them and in that note we see a number of prophesies from this great prophet that point directly to Christ.

Thousands of years on from the time of Isaiah, God is still calling us and just like Isaiah, we have no excuses. Look for the glory of the Lord and listen for his voice, you may be surprised what you find.
