Day 248
Isaiah 8:11-10:19, 2 Corinthians 8:1-15, Proverbs 21:27-22:6
“It’s Christmas!!!!!!!!!!!” As Noddy Holder so famously shouted!
Well, Ok, it’s not Christmas but when you read Isaiah 9, you can’t help but think of Christmas. Try this out for a visual take on the reading:
Taking a step back in the passage the other thing that struck me was the part about mediums and spiritualists. Not that long ago I was in a certain book shop selling a book on “talking to the dead”. I took a quick look to see if it was as dodgy as it sounded and it was! I have to admit to being a little bit proactive. The book was on the front of a whole load of other (diet) books and it ended up at the back of the said pile! We can not underestimate the danger of mediums and spiritualists and Isaiah is right, we should never consider consulting them.
Jesus came at Christmas to fulfil the prophecy of Isaiah 9, more importantly he came to give life in such a way that we would never need to consult those in the dark, for he is the light. When we walk in his light, he is the only one we need to talk to, for he defeated death through his resurrection.
So don’ talk to the dead, talk to the one who defeated death and gave light to all people. You’ll get far more sense out of Him anyway.
