Day 262
Isaiah 44:24-46:13, Galatians 4:21-5:6, Psalm 108:6-13
So far along this journey we have read a great deal of scripture and yet sometimes it is the headings that offer the biggest insights as to meaning. We do of course have to remember that they have been added much later rather than by Paul or any of the other writers of the Bible.
Take this one as a cracking example: “Freedom in Christ”. The offer that this gives, and the depth of what Paul is saying is not just for the Galatians, it is something that will effect people throughout all ages. The freedom that Christ gives us is incomparable to any other kind of freedom that we may think about. There is a course entitled “Freedom in Christ” and the sense of release that this course brings, the freedom that it offers in the life of all that take part is amazing.
We often talk about counting our blessings, but sometimes it is OK to count your burdens. What do you feel it is that burdens your life at the moment. It may be exams or work, a lack of self worth or a reminder of a sin long past. It can be anything that gets us down or makes us feel less than perfect.
I had a dream of being trapped the other night, not being able to go back through the door I had come through and having the smallest of holes in the wall to get through the other way – potholing is not something I fancy so this really was a nightmare. Sometimes people get really trapped by the feelings that we mentioned earlier, you may be one. What Christ offers is the freedom from all of these pressure.
You still have to do the exams or go to work, for me squeezing through that hole in my dream, and yet Christ gives us the strength to face our fears and be free through Him on the other side.
Take the freedom Christ offers today and know you are free.
