Day 281

Jeremiah 16:1-17:27, Colossians 4:2-18, Psalm 118:17-29

Jeremiah starts chapter 16 with words that we have seen quite regularly through our reading of the prophets and yet they are words that we don't hear quite so often today.
"Then the word of the Lord came to me"
I wonder how often we actually listen hard enough to hear what God is actually saying to us. The Holy Spirit offers us the gifts of Prophesy, we can be prophets too, we just need to listen. And that involves prayer. The book that I mentioned yesterday actually uses a passage from Jeremiah today (17:7-8) in which she had spent time listening to God, and that is what he said to her.

Prayer is two way, the Colossians reading today urges us to devote ourselves to it, that is will be a wrestle at times. When we devote ourselves to listening to God then we are far more likely to hear his word. God wants us to be prophets, but we must listen first before we can say "the word of the Lord came to me".

What is God saying to you right now. Listen.
