Day 295
Jeremiah 48:1-49:6, 2 Timothy 1:1-18, Psalm 119:81-88
2 Timothy will always have a place in my heart for it is the book that we studied when I went on a short term mission to Africa. That is the joy of the Word of God, we find that specific verses or chapters or whole books become attached to specific parts of our lives, and when we dwell deeply in the Word, we find that we might even start living by the word.
Half of the problem of the nations of Israel and Judah and all these other nations that Jeremiah is speaking out against is that they were not living by the word of God and Paul is now into his second letter encouraging Timothy as strongly as possible to live a life devoted to God.
Having read 1 and 2 Timothy he is the kind of person that I would really like to meet and have coffee with. I have met many people over the years who have a faith that just bowls you over, a faith so deep that you could drown in it and it is just so obvious by the way that they act and the things that they say. Faith almost radiates out from them. I imagine that Timothy is on the path to being that kind of person and he has learnt from his family.
The idea of a spirit of power rather than a spirit of timidity is one that we can have as well. We might think that so many things are pressing on our faith, making us timid, and yet we can be bold for the spirit within us is the Holy Spirit which has power over all things.
So may you have a spirit of love, power and discipline that your faith may radiate from you.
