Day 296
Jeremiah 49:7-50:10, 2 Timothy 2:1-26, Proverbs 25:21-26:2
“God’s word is not chained”.
The words of God brought light and life in creation. The living Word in Christ Jesus brought light and life to many through the words he spoke, and the Word of God in the Bible is still going strong today, still a best seller, celebrated this year for a translation of it and still being translated into more and more new languages as we speak.
“God’s word is not chained”.
And yet sometimes it is chained in our hearts and in our mouths. We don’t let it out when we should and we hold it prisoner when we could be bringing light and life to those around us. Paul speaks of a couple of people in the church then who did similar and we have to be careful not to fall into the same trap. The 2almost poem” that Paul uses is a testimony to this:
The first half speaks of the consequences of all out devotion to God – that we will live and reign with him. The second half speaks of what will happen when we chain up the word of God in our hearts.
Charles Wesley once wrote the words “my chains fell off, my heart was free, I rose went forth and followed thee”. Let us lose the chains of the word of God, because when we do we might find that our own chains fall off.
