Day 304

Obadiah 1-21, Hebrews 2:1-18, Proverbs 26:13-22

“What is mankind that you are mindful of them,
   a son of man that you care for him?
You made them a little lower than the angels;
   you crowned them with glory and honour
and put everything under their feet.

We continue the theme of being heirs with Christ, getting an idea of our own holiness. As I read these passages from scripture I stand in a very interesting place. I have just come from a weeks retreat in preparation for ordination in just two days. I have spent time dwelling on the word of God, waiting on his word for me today and waiting on the Spirit. I have also spent a good bit of time reflecting on the words that will be said to me, over me and the words that I will say as I promise to serve God in His church. On Sunday we will pray that the Spirit will enable me and equip me for all that God wants me to do.

Just before all of this happens, the whole congregation will declare that I am worthy for the task that I am called. It is by the grace of God alone that I am indeed worthy, for he has made me a little lower than an angel, he has crowned me with glory and honour.

I am a sinner, but I am far more than that, I am a FORGIVEN sinner. Despite my faults and failings, God knows me and loves me and he is very mindful of all that I am and he will use that for His glory.

So on Sunday people will declare that I “am worthy” and I will be ordained for the lifelong service of he Lord.

You too are worthy and the Lord has a task that he wants you to do. Spend some time dwelling in His word and awaiting His Spirit.
