Day 307

Ezekiel 1:1-3:27, Hebrews 4:14-5:10, Psalm 119:153-160

Callings are pretty impressive things. When God calls it is always impressive, because God has spoken to you and yet callings can also be very ordinary. There are some very impressive ones in the Bible.

Take Isaiah, in the year King Uzziah died, he actually saw the Lord in a vision. There were seraphs, and coals and all the finery of heaven. It is one of the passages that gives us a good idea of how glorious heaven is and amidst it there is the question “whom shall we send”. A pretty powerful calling.

Then there is Ezekiel here today. Now this is pretty good. I could not even start to imagine the creatures that he saw, the wheels and all that might have gone before his eyes. It appears almost like a nightmare rather than a dream. Then there was a call and the Lord spoke to Ezekiel.

And what about Paul, the bright light, the voice calling, the blindness. And the subsequent work that Paul did for God.

Then there was Ian, my local preachers mentor, who was spoken to by three separate people, suggesting that he should become a preacher. And he followed, and he did amazing work for the Lord, and he preached the Gospel, and be spoke Christ into the hearts of many.

God calls through the amazing, and he calls through the ordinary. But when God calls you it is not ordinary, it is amazing. Listen to his call, whom shall he send…?
