Day 313
Ezekiel 17:1-18:32, Hebrews 9:16-28, Psalm 121:1-8
Your walk with God is yours! It is not mine, it is not your parents, friends or uncle’s dog’s. It is yours. Your relationship with the almighty is personal.
That might seem like a very odd thing to say but… In the Ezekiel reading we see a number of oracles about a son not following his father or in some instances choosing to follow the good practices of their fathers. I might not know your dad that well, and whether he is a person who we should copy or not, but we are all often guilty of copying people, be it Rob Bell, Andy Frost, the youth worker or the person who brought you to Christ.
No one is perfect though, not even Rob Bell or the youth worker and the best person that we can chose to copy is Christ. Each of these people that we think have such a close walk with the Lord still have their faults. Sometimes we are even guilty of thinking “if they can do that, it must be ok”. It is at this point that we return to the fact that the walk is our own.
When we pick up the odd good thing from those around us but then model the rest on Christ and Christ alone, then our journey with the Lord will take on better shape. In Ezekiel they were copying their ancestors rather than focusing on themselves and God. Look up before you look out and you get the focus right.
Ask God the best way forward and he will lead you to the right people doing the right things. What is he saying today?
