Day 315

Ezekiel 20:45-22:22, Hebrews 10:19-39, Psalm 123:1-4

I haven’t given much space to the Psalms over the last few months, especially as we have just read the longest psalm (which I think took about a month) and now we seem to come to one of the shortest.
As we have found before though, we can learn a lot from the psalmists. Psalm 123 contains reverence to God, it contains provision from God and it contains mercy.
I lift up my eyes to you,
to you who sit enthroned in heaven
Here the psalmist is seeing God in his rightful place, high up in heaven. The next verses talks of the master/slave and mistress/maid relationship, that when we look up we are showing respect and honour. All of this is due to God in bucket loads as we give him the glory.
As the eyes of slaves look to the hand of their master
The master and mistress would also provide for their slave. A slave was a thing of value so you housed them, fed them and showed a bit of respect to them. The relationship was not one of complete freedom but the slaves needs were provided for.
Have mercy on us, LORD, have mercy on us
We believe in a God of mercy, he sent His son that we may know release from our sin, that is the mercy of God. The Lord does not just provide for our daily needs, he provides mercy, that we may not be slaves to sin, but that we may be free to live.

So give God the glory, know His provision and mercy and live in freedom with him.
