Day 331
Daniel 2:24-3:12, 2 Peter 1:1-21, Psalm 135:1-12
If you are one of the many who now have smartphones and ipads then your world revolves around the “app”. There are apps for almost everything under the sun, from finding your nearest Costa coffee shop (essential) to scanning barcodes in he supermarket. And then there are the apps for everything in between.
For the developers the challenge is firstly to make apps that people want so that your phone or ipad is loaded with them. The next challenge is to develop the ultimate app that absolutely everyone will want, the app to end all apps.
Peter here is talking about apps for our life, things that we can add to our lives to make them better and more Godly. Goodness, knowledge, self control are all things that Peter urges us to include in our lives to enrich us and the way we are with other people and the way we are with God. These are things that we should download and use daily in order that we are closer to what God wants of us.
Then there is the ultimate app, love. The one that will surpass all other apps (1 Corinthians 13). When we have love then we really are getting there, love is the thing that we should not just use every day but every minute. There are some programmes on my phone that I use very rarely and then there are things like Facebook and BBC news that I almost check every time I pick the phone up. Love is the same. Love your family, love your friends, love your neighbour, love your enemy, love the random stranger in the street and the person who serves you coffee. Love every minute of the day.
Why? Because God loves us every second, with every breath we take, with a love that surpasses all things. So we too should love. So make sure love is the main app on your home screen, app you use every time you log in, the app that is never off.
