Day 335

Daniel 7:1-8:14, 1 John 2:12-27, Psalm 136:13-26

I am often surprised at how many people believe that stuff in the Bible was true for that time and is not true now. We covered some weeks ago about people who believe the gifts of the Spirit were no longer relevant and there are many others who believe that the Bible may be true but factual stuff is no longer relevant.

Yet John talks about people wanting to lead believers astray and yet that is just as true today as it ever was. There is so much in the media and in life that tries to lead us from God, tries to offer a better life and a more fun life. In God however there is the truth and in his Gospel (Jn 8:32) John reminds us that this truth will set us free. The world would have us believe that its way is what brings freedom and yet it is God who brings freedom from the ties of sin.

When we clothe ourselves in the truth of Christ we get a very different picture of all the things of the world that try to lead us astray, just like the people whom John was talking about. When we are anointed by Christ, when he is within us and around us, when that ever enduring love is evident within us, then we hold firm to the truth of Christ in the storm of life.

No matter what tries to lead us from him, let us remain in his love.
