Day 337

Daniel 9:20-11:1, 1 John 3:11-4:6, Psalm 137:1-9

Who would you class as your biblical hero. For some it is Daniel, the prophet that we are in the middle of reading about. For a lot of those people though he is a hero for one reason, he stood up for God and got thrown into the lions den. There are two small problems that I have with this though:

1) We remember Daniel all the time but (unless we tell the wider story) we often forget Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego who did exactly the same thing. Daniel seems to be the more famous one because he has a book all of his own!

2) The other thing is that when we concentrate on the lion’s den we often forget the other stuff that ranks Daniel alongside some of the other lesser known heroes of the faith – he prayed lots, he fasted and in the day to day he followed the word of the Lord. It was the account of his prayer today that really made me notice that the story of Daniel was far more than just the lion’s den.

The thing is, there are many people of faith who live this kind of life today, who offer constant prayer, prayers that are listened to just like the angel said Daniel’s was. In fact, the most important thing is that you could be one of those people, we don’t need to be thrown into a lion’s den for God to notice us.

Daniel prayed for answers to a vision, what will your prayer be today?
