Day 339

Daniel 11:36-12:13, 1 John 5:1-21, Psalm 139:1-10

Two extremely powerful passages today. John gives us a passage about faith which knuckles down very quickly to go to the heart of what Christ is for us and has done for us. From Psalm 139 we get a well know passage that speaks of the care and love of God for his people – also one of my favourite passages.

Right there in the heart of it John points us to the blood of Christ that has washed us clean and the Spirit of God which keeps us on in the fight. We have seen before (and not that long ago) that there is an almost constant battle with temptation and yet John reminds us that the love of God is within us, the blood of Christ has washed over us and the Spirit is constantly around us.  When our lives are soaked in our faith in Christ then the temptations will come but we are in a far better place do deal with them.

The Psalm offers us one of those passages of comfort that can keep us going in the storm of life. This is the story of the God who will never leave our side, he is there in and through all things, no matter where we are he is watching over us, from the depths to the heights.

But when we bring the two together though we get to the heart of the Gospel. The Psalm may start with “O Lord, you have searched me and you know me” but the Gospel summed up by John here is that he has searched us and knows us, yet he still loves and protects us, despite all he has found within us.

O Lord, you’ve searched me and you know me and you still love me. Thank you!
