Day 344

Zechariah 12:1-14:21, Revelation 2:1-17, Proverbs 30:1-10

Although we have not dipped into Proverbs much over the course of this journey, it is full of a number of gems of wisdom that have even made it into our modern language.

Today offers us an oracle of a man who doesn’t think he is that clever. And yet despite his own perceived ignorance he does a pretty good job of summing God up, in fact he does a very good job. It was interesting that God was pretty much out there at the time so most people knew of him, and therefore this man, who says he knows nothing, seems to know quite a lot.

What about now, when people seem to have no clue about God. He is never far from us though, and it is interesting how many people look for something more, seeking after God even though they are not sure who He is or where to find Him. The challenge is for those who do know him, for the church, to give people a place where they can meet God.

But that place should not just be a church building. When we look at the number of churches that are doing acts of kindness and mercy in the streets, that are showing God at work, they give people a pretty good idea of what God is like. Is that a challenge that we are stepping up to. People sometimes quote a shift from “knowing God” as a basic part of society and yet it is for believers to ensure that people are able to see the God that is always there with them.

How could we meet that challenge.
