Day 345

Esther 1:1-2:18, Revelation 2:18-3:6, Psalm 140:6-13

What would John say to us? Whenever I read Revelation I always find myself asking that question. As we look at these letters we see encouragement and we see challenge, some of the churches are doing some things right but they are all doing something that is challenged and needs change.

So what about the church today? There are questions that can be asked of the global church but there are also questions that can be asked of individual churches in each place. What do we get right and what do we get wrong?

Both are important questions – what we get right are the things that we can rejoice in, the things that we can give thanks for. God called us to be people of praise who rejoice and give glory to His name and he far more delights when we give praise rather than beat ourselves up.

But we also have to be real and look at the things that might be written about in our churches if we were included in the book of Revelation. The main thing is to look forward and not back, to identify the things we could do better but focus on what we are going to do about it rather than dwell on the past. Seek how we may truly be the body of Christ in the world today.

So what would John write to the angel of the church where you are? And what are you going to do about it?
