Day 349
Malachi 1:1-2:16, Revelation 6:1-17, Psalm 143:1-12
The psalm offers a picture of what life can sometimes be like for the faithful. I always speak out against the fairy-tale “when I became a Christian all my problems ended”, because it is just not true. The troubles don’t end, the devil still tries to have a pop, but what does change is that we have the Lord of heaven and earth on our side.
What we see in the psalm is that this has been the case for the followers of God fro quite some time. Despite his faith, despite being quite close to God, the psalmist is having a bit of a tough time of it, pursued by the enemy his spirit is growing faint. What is his response to this problem – to keep his eyes firmly fixed on the Lord, recounting God’s wonder and majesty.
Even once we have given our lives to Christ, life will still through up the usual challenges and the unusual ones to. Like the psalmist though, we can cry out for mercy, spreading our hands out to the Lord. His unfailing love is just as strong as when these words were written and it is ours for the taking.
What are the challenges that you face today. Open your hands to God, seek his mercy and love and face the challenge with the God of heaven and earth behind you.
