Day 354
Ezra 6:1-7:10, Revelation 12:1-13:1, Psalm 145:8-13
One thing that strikes me whenever I read Old Testament accounts of the Passover, is the links with what is an integral part of Christ’s death and what we do as a church in communion. At a Passover meal Christ ate with his disciples and shared the last supper before his death, a meal we remember when we come to share bread and wine. It is a stark reminder every time we read of it.
Revelation offers us a very different picture that I can quite resonate with at the moment. It is the picture of a battle between believers and the devil, or at least the other way round. We get the impression that the devil is very much in action against those who are faithful to the Lord, a viewpoint that many follow today. There are times when it feels as though the devil and all his forces are very active against us, and that battle lines are well and truly drawn.
With this image of battle in the passage there is also the promise that the realms of heaven are fighting on our side. The God of heaven and earth will move heaven and earth to help us and fight for us. The Psalm offers us that God, the Lord who is gracious is fighting our corner so that one day all his people will praise him.
If you feel as though you are in the midst of that battle at the moment, if the devil seems to be constantly knocking at your door, then know that the battle is not yours, it is the Lords and he will fight for you through all things.
