Going nowhere without the journey
First of all apologies for the silence over the last couple of days. I had this post in my mind yesterday bit no working computer – #digital attack!
I realised yesterday how essential the journey is – without it you go nowhere. If you want to go on holiday then you need to travel there, otherwise you are just stuck at home. If we imagine an exciting destination, any “must go” place, then a journey is required. There may be good bits and bad bits to the journey but above all there is the excitement of the destination.
Lent leads us to the excitement of Easter, the essential journey that takes us to the greatest destination of all. Through a number of Lents I have wrestled with how we do Lent when we need to be Easter people each and every day and yet Easter itself is an important part of our Christian life – something we certainly can’t lay aside. Easter is the big celebration, the pinnacle of the year when we remember the sacrifice of God and rejoice in the resurrection.
And in order to get to Easter, Lent is the essential journey that we must make along the way. It may have its high points and its low points and yet at the end of it is the ultimate destination – the resurrection.
Which in a sense leads me back to the point where I need to lay aside my everyday Easter and pick up the Lent journey. So more thinking to do as I journey along this year.
