Day 268
Isaiah 60:1-62:12, Ephesians 4:1-16, Proverbs 23:19-28
Part of the problem with reading a lot of judgement and then a lot of the positive prophecy is that sometimes you get the two mixed up. I got distracted part way through the Old Testament today and came back in at the first line of 60:19.
“The sun will no more be your light by day”
“Yeah, yeah” I thought, heard this one before, the sun will stop shining, all is bad in the world. How wrong could I be, what the prophet is saying is that one day there will be something far more powerful than the sun, one day, we will not need the sun for the glory of the Lord will shine all around us (remember how Moses had to be shielded from the glory of the Lord so he didn’t frazzle up).
Now you’ve probably picked up on my love of the cosmic God, sun, moon and stars and the fact that He is so much bigger than all of it. Well take a gander at this picture of the sun and how powerful it is. Remember what Paul said yesterday in Ephesians, about how God will do things beyond our wildest imagination, like Eclipse the power of the sun with his glory. You can see why Moses would have fried.
And if that was not enough, this will be followed by the year of the Lord’s favour, when the fruit of the glory of the Lord will be seen within his people, and we will be priests of the Lord. That is an honour indeed.
The priestly task is something that all believers are called to and it is not necessarily about standing up at the front of church. Some are prophets, some evangelists, some preachers, some teachers and so on. You may not be entirely sure what God is calling you to do, but you can be sure he has an individual role for you, listen for the calling.
The year of the Lord’s favour is there for you, when you will be a priest for his glory. Part of the glory is in the waiting for the call.
